Inspiring Young Leaders at Helotes Elementary

Carabin Law had the joy and privilege of spending Career Day with the bright, imaginative students of Helotes Elementary, specifically the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders who kept us smiling, thinking, and even solving a mystery or two. Kirsten and David, two of our attorneys, talked with students about what it means to be a lawyer. Not in complicated court language, but in a way their young audience already understood: being an attorney is a superpower. It’s the power to help people, listen, solve problems, and make things fair. We shared that at Carabin Law, our job isn’t just about cases and courtrooms, it’s about compassion, teamwork, and standing up for others. The students jumped right in with questions, ideas, and thoughtful examples of fairness from their own lives.

Boots & Asia: The Heist
Of course, no great story, or school visit, is complete without a twist. So we introduced the students to two very important members of the Carabin Law family: Boots, our Comfort-in-Chief, and Asia, another beloved office dog.

Recently, there was a playful crime scene at the office:

  • Boots stole Asia’s treats
  • Asia stole Boots’ pillow toy

We called it Boots & Asia: The Heist, and then we turned to our expert panel: the kids.

“What should lawyers do to fix this?” we asked.

Their answers were brilliant:
“Make them apologize!”

“Share the treats and the pillow!”

“Have a meeting!”

“Maybe Asia should hide her treats better!”

With humor and heart, the students showed exactly what lawyers do every day, listen, understand both sides, and work toward fairness.

Planting Seeds of Leadership
Career Day wasn’t just about explaining our work, it was about empowering young minds to see their own potential. We reminded students that anyone can become a helper, problem-solver, advocate, or leader, whether they grow up to be teachers, attorneys, engineers, artists, or anything else they dream about. And based on the creativity we witnessed, we’re confident the future is in good hands.

Thank You, Helotes Elementary
To the teachers, staff, parents, and especially the students, thank you for welcoming us into your classrooms and reminding us why community matters. We left inspired, hopeful, and maybe a little worried about how many future attorneys may one day take our jobs. Check out the photos and videos below for the full Boots & Asia: The Heist investigation, classroom moments, and lots of smiles. We can’t wait to come back next year!
