Ozempic and Mounjaro

Ozempic and Mounjaro Side Effects Under Review

Carabin Law is reviewing reports of serious health complications that may be associated with the use of Ozempic and Mounjaro, prescription medications approved to treat Type 2 diabetes. In recent years, these drugs have also been widely used for weight loss, including off-label use.

Some patients have reported severe medical issues after taking these medications. Regulatory agencies, researchers, and courts are continuing to evaluate whether certain side effects may be linked to their use in some individuals.

Reported Gastrointestinal Complications

Among the most frequently reported concerns are digestive system problems. Patients have described symptoms that required medical treatment or hospitalization, including:

  • Persistent nausea or vomiting

  • Severe stomach or abdominal pain

  • Bloating or constipation

  • Dehydration and loss of appetite

Some reports involve gastroparesis, a condition in which the stomach empties food more slowly than normal, even when no blockage is present. Symptoms may interfere with daily life and nutrition.

Vision-Related Concerns Being Studied

Medical researchers have also examined whether semaglutide medications, including Ozempic, may be associated with an increased risk of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) in certain patients. NAION is a condition that affects blood flow to the optic nerve and may cause sudden vision changes.

Reported symptoms include blurred vision, dark spots, reduced peripheral vision, and changes in contrast or color perception. Research in this area is ongoing.

Other Reported Neurological Symptoms

Some patients have reported nerve-related symptoms following significant weight loss while using these medications. These reports include weakness or difficulty lifting the front of the foot, sometimes referred to as “drop foot.” The causes of these symptoms can vary and should be evaluated by a medical professional.
